2nd Poem

This year we weren't sure what we were going to give to Lance's parents for Christmas. After some thought, Lance said, "Why don't you make a hand print thing like you did for your parents?"

Great! Perfect! BUT...I didn't want it to be EXACTLY the same. So we choose reddish/brown modeling clay to make the kids' hand prints with; we cut them out in circles instead of squares; and I wrote a different poem. The one for my parents is an original. ;)

I don't have a picture of the final product...maybe I'll get one later. But here is the second poem:

Grandkids Hands

Every time a pair of hands

Comes here to this earth –

They blindly reach for loving arms,

To hold them on their day of birth.

As their earthly guardians,

We embrace each tiny finger –

Watching them grow and learn,

Wishing moments would simply linger.

From the clench of a newborn fist

To a hi-five of a toddler hand –

Each passing day we realize

How the hands of time don’t stand.

We don’t dare blink an eye;

Each day these hands do something new –

Eating, crawling, hugging, tickling,

Praying, loving, holding our hands too.

With a wealth of love to share,

We are all a part of their years –

Although it’s tough to see them grow,

We shed only happy tears.

As parents we truly love them,

Everyday of our lives –

Being “Grand” is important too,

As the love they get only intensifies.

One day these hands will mature,

Endless opportunities they will share –

It’s no wonder we protect them,

From the heartache they might bear.

These three prints from heaven,

Come to us, with a piece of you too –

Hold them in your hearts forever,

Together, it’s what we’ll do.

So I used this idea for Grandparent gifts too and they LOVED it! So easy....thank you so much for sharing and inspiring Rosanne! Though I just did the hand print and a photo. Your poems are great!

Beautiful Rosanne! You are so gifted, you are a wonderful blessing to us all. We love your poems, and we have kept them all since you started writing them when you were a little girl. So proud of you always. Love you Muñeca!
