I couldn't wait to be done with the project and get a BREAK. Lance too, since he was home each evening taking care of the kiddos.
Oh, we got a break alright, but it wasn't the kind we wanted. In fact, this post isn't even about me or Lance.
On Wed. (April 7), Lance got a call from H.A.N.D.S. - the after school daycare program at Hayley's school. When he called me to tell me he was picking her up about 1/2 hour earlier than usual, I knew that couldn't be good news.
Apparently, she was doing something on some monkey bars (and she's a pro on monkey bars, so I usually never worry) and she fell and hurt her wrist. They had ice on it, but it was not swelling.
We called our orthopedic surgeon friend and he said since there's no swelling, that's a good sign - so just wrap it and ice it and give her some Tylonel. If it bothers her throughout the night and still in the morning, bring her in. It did. It was a rough night. And since I got home from work at 3 a.m. I was already awake and just took over caring for her and her pain.
So Lance took her in Thurs. (April 8) morning. I was already feeling bad because I had to be at work for this project. But again, Lance was being our hero.
Next thing I know, I get a text photo on my cell phone around 9:45 a.m. of Hayley and something pink on her arm. Yup, A CAST. I call and Lance told me she did break her arm. But it wasn't bad - actually called a buckle fracture. I understand it like this: Being so young, her bone is still a bit soft - like a slightly wet piece of wood. It didn't snap in half, but it bent/broke enough to almost snap. ?? So while it heals, a cast stabilizes it so it doesn't break completely in half.
She was so good about it all. She even went to school after getting her cast on...excited to show it to all her friends. A few of them even signed it already. ;) When I got done with my project a little after noon, I ran some errands and waited patiently to go pick up Hayley from school at 2:45. I couldn't wait to see her and hold her. She was happy to see me too. ;)
She has to have her cast on for three weeks.
So here we are, no kids over the age of 5 years old, yet two of them have had broken bones. (sigh)
I swear we drink a lot of milk.
