Service with a smile

I had the most humbling experience just before Christmas. I volunteered through church to work one night at the Rescue Mission. I was a little nervous...don't know why...I just was.

But when a bunch of us women got there, I felt just fine and was ready to help. We were just there to serve dinner. We served the women and children first. Then 15 minutes later, they allow the men who were waiting up front to come into the cafeteria and we served them. Those eating there that night were all so grateful.

At one point, we were just standing there. So we decided to sing a few Christmas carols. The crowd enjoyed it and clapped with big smiles on their faces.

We wore paper hats and plastic gloves. One of the women in our group kept stumbling on her shoe lace. She ignored it because she had the oversize, funky gloves on. One of the men eating at a table close to where this woman was standing, put his fork down, bent over and tied her shoe. Watching this simple act of kindness almost brought me to tears. Here we were serving this man...and he turned around and served one of us. It was beautiful. I'm glad I did it and hope I make more opportunities for myself to do it again.

Wow...that it such an awesome story and truly shows how not to judge. That's so cool you did that. Nice job Rosanne!

Neat experience you'll remember for a long time. Service is Gods way of answering the prayers of his children.
